Sydney Finds Employment
(mature content)
Ivan DixonAdventure10.9 MBClick here to download

In Sydney Finds Employment, Sydney Claywood wakes in his alley one day to discover a new policy set in place by a joint venture between the political parties, churches and big businesses to rid the streets of homelessness and unemployment.

Sydney decides that the only way to save himself and his friends is to go directly to the heart of the plan, the CBD, and argue his case. However, in the back of Sydfs mind is the constant idea that maybe he could just find a real job during his adventure.

The player controls Sydney with the mouse. Right click to cycle through walking, examining, picking up, talking, and using, and left click to activate the command. Items are stored in Sydney's knapsack, and can be combined or closely examined while in the inventory. Many people will shun Sydney because of his looks, so he will need to find proper ID, a tie, shoes and a decent suit to get into the heart of the corporation.

For mature audiences only.

Sydney Treads the Catwalk
(mature content)
Ivan DixonAdventure14.9 MBClick here to download

The sequel to last year's Sydney Finds Employment, Sydney Treads the Catwalk is a new AGS adventure game by pixel artist extraordinaire Ivan Dixon. Eccentric humor is once again the main focus of this title, though the author has taken heed much of the feedback received by it's predecessor and implemented them into this release to please fans of the genre.

The point and click interface from early Sierra releases is used here, so players who are familiar with those classics should feel right at home. Left click to interact with an object, or right click to cycle through all available actions. Move the cursor towards the top of the screen to access the inventory.

Symon is a puzzle game that tells the story of a bedridden hospital patient who sorely misses his home and family. The only thing he can do is to sleep and dream, which leads him to a place inside his imagination that is populated by a cast of unusual characters to meet and run errands for.

Repeated playthroughs of Symon is advised, since players are usually presented with the opportunity to collect a different piece of our protagonist's personal effects after every fruitful visit to the dreamworld.

Synaesthete
DigiPen Institute of TechnologyAction/Arcade48.7 MBClick here to download

Synaesthete is an arena shooter which attempts to bombard players with a cacophony of sound and images, hence it's not surprising that this DigiPen student project contains a seizure warning as well. The objective of the game is to guide the protagonist from one area to another, though each exit is only made accessible once the entire room is cleared of enemies.

Attacks are initiated by timing the correct key presses to each beat. This is where Synaesthete suffers, because a simple arcade game was unnecessarily turned into a car wreck with complicated control elements - the only letdown of an otherwise impressive team effort. The game is still undergoing changes, so there's a possibility that it's difficulty could be toned down in future releases.

Sync Simple

Sync Simple is a tunnel shooter that comes with a basic level progression system, boss fights, and upgrades tied to your ship's capability to take damage. The level changes whenever you eliminate twenty-four aliens in the current area, and though the game starts out easy the enemies will eventually start to weave around and shoot back at you with their own weapons.

There are collectibles that upgrade your firepower, but if you get hit the guns will be weakened gradually until you're left with a single shot weapon. A collision with an invader or their projectile while in this state, and the ship explodes thus ending your mission abruptly.

Up to three power-up items can be amassed, and you will definitely need to hoard as many as you can get your hands on if you plan to survive longer than a minute on one life.

Synopsis Quest is a collection of puzzle and arcade-based side quests, where the hero can be trying to rescue a princess in one minute and attempting to loot treasure from the enemy's lair in the next. You are free to play the missions in any order, although the sequence that they are in sort of tells the story of our hero's noble quest to save the kingdom.

Syu-So-Gyoku
Syunsatu Sare DoShoot 'em up1.23 MBClick here to download

Syu-So-Gyoku plays a lot like a shmup from the SNES era, due to it's extensive use of 16-bit graphics and sprites.

The game does offer a myriad of weapon types, good framerate and controls, power-ups as well as end level bosses. A decent shooter to try out if you're willing to forgive the slightly dated graphics.
