TUMIKI Fighters
Kenta Cho, ABA GamesShoot 'em up5.03 MBClick here to download

Tumiki Fighters is a shooter by Kenta Cho that is quite different compared to his other efforts. Just about all the objects in the game are made out of colorful blocks, including your own fighter plane.

Enemy ships that have been destroyed will break into pieces. These parts can be collected by simply touching them, and they will act as extensions to your own fighter plane. Your attack strength increases with each part you collect, although they will fall apart if an enemy bullet hits it.

You can retract the enemy ship parts by holding down the X key, although no further parts can be picked up until you release the button.

Truck Dismount

Truck Dismount is a computer game made by Jetro Lauha of tAAt. The game has no other aim but to cause as much damage to the ragdoll physics man as possible. The figure can interact with ramps, a truck and a wall.

Players can sit the man in the truck, on the cabin, on the very top, or stand him in front of it. The player sets the speed of the truck and where the ramps are located, then simply lets the action unfold. Players are given points dependent on how much damage they inflict on the stick figure.

Typhoon 2001

Anyone familiar with Tempest would definitely be interested in Thorsten's Typhoon 2001. Use the left and right arrow keys to move the ship around the stage, and hold the space key to shoot. A superzapper can be used by pressing the enter key. Avoid spikes when warping to the next level.

Not a standard vertical or horizontal shooter but quite simply one of the best freeware Tempest remake yet. Ace, indeed.

Akuchizoku
cactusShoot 'em up8.53 MBClick here to download

Akuchizoku is a horizontal shooter created by cactus, featuring three playable levels, two difficulty settings, three different pilots and two gameplay modes. The difficulty setting adjusts the number of bosses and enemies you would have to face in battle.

Hold the Z key to shoot, and press the X key to launch a missile. Tap the C key to activate your special weapon, though this move is limited to one use per ship.

Only one pilot is available in story mode, but any level and pilot can be selected in free play mode.

Seiklus
cly5mPlatformer2.58 MBClick here to download

Seiklus is a puzzle platformer with an emphasis on exploration. There is no dialogue or literary exposition of the plot. The game consists of loosely connected areas that the player has to explore, collecting both items to help on the way and floating wisps of various colours, which should optimally be all obtained. Seiklus has no weapons and no violence. There are various hostile lifeforms in some areas, but at worst they only set you back a little. It is impossible to lose or get stuck.

Shade

Shade is a short one room game set in a cramped apartment, written by Andrew Plotkin for the 6th Annual IF Competition in 2000. In it, players find themselves packing to leave for a trip to an arts festival, but must first complete a few house chores before setting off with the plane tickets in hand. The hint system has been cleverly disguised by the author as a to-do list, which can be referred to whenever you find yourself contemplating on what action to take next.

Ratmaze 2

The lovable rodent from Pixeljam's original maze adventure returns for another go at navigating a dastardly tricky labyrinth in Ratmaze 2, on a quest to nibble down every single piece of cheese or edible material it could sink it's teeth into.

The first maze is made playable in this version as well, and a scroll mode can now be activated for a clearer view of the rat's surroundings. Expect to encounter puzzles such as those that requires pushing objects into certain areas or finding false walls to uncover hidden passages.

Mondo Medicals
cactusAction/Arcade2.96 MBClick here to download

Mondo Medicals could be described as an illogical puzzle game played from a first person view, with plenty of bizarre elements. Most of the levels are designed to confuse you, and the solutions aren't always that easy to figure out. Move around with the arrow keys and press Z to interact with stuff. There are in game instructions, but they might not be that easy to interpret. There are eight levels total.

Pylo Noveau
Grit, OmnilithPlatformer6.14 MBClick here to download
(external link)

Pylo Noveau is a 2D platformer made with the Game Maker engine, featuring four lengthy levels to play in the first demo build released. The developer has promised four times the content in the final version, but don't let the incomplete tag discourage you from giving this game a try.

You play as Pylo, a dragon with fire-breathing ability that can be further upgraded whenever you collect a red gem. Any jewels you collect also allows you to use special powers that can either reveal secrets in a stage, heal Pylo, or even hurt enemies in a myriad of ways.

The biggest letdown of this project is the use of sound effects from other commercial releases, although if you can let that slide then there's some fun to be had here by fans of platform games.
