Narcissu is an excellent visual novel written by Tomo Kataoka, then translated by both insani and Haeleth. The narrative begins with a bleak outlook but things do improve as the story progresses. Any attempt at describing this piece would be spoiling the experience, unfortunately. Suffice to say that anyone who enjoys a good read or a touching movie should get this right away.

Stage-NanaAdventure28.4 MBClick here to download

A direct prequel to the visual novel Narcissu, Narcissu Side 2nd is currently in production by stage-nana. A preview version was sold at Comiket 70 for 200 yen, and has since been released for download at stage-nana's website.

The focus will be on Setsumi, the female heroine from the original visual novel, and on the people and circumstances that formed the character presented in the first game; most of the preview is told from Setsumi's point of view. According to the author's comments in the afterword to the preview edition, she will share the limelight with at least two new heroines.

Nathan's Second Chance
Tim Knauf, Upper Orbit SoftwareAdventure7.52 MBClick here to download

Nathan's Second Chance is an excellent freeware adventure game made by Tim Knauf. Much like what the title suggests, your character has a sudden heart attack and finds himself embarking on his final journey.

Only this time, the trip involves a bus ride to meet a Brit. The eccentric man offers Nathan another opportunity to return to the land of the living, but under one condition. He must reconcile his differences with his daughter, who no longer stays together with the family.

And so the grand adventure begins. It's fairly simple to get into, thanks to an extensive tutorial. All the puzzles are relatively easy to solve as well, contributing to the gameplay because the story continues to move along without long pauses or unnecessary side quests.

Nearly Departed

Nearly Departed begins with you as a zombie, and you need to figure out who you are and how you became what you are, and in the meantime try not to turn everyone in the city into zombies. Your identity is a tiny mystery that you'll discover very quickly, at least your name. It won't take long to piece together who you are and what your daily routine was.

Most of the plot revolves around figuring out your daily routine and what led you to being murdered and zombified. A lot of the characters you'll meet are the kind you'd see on an average day. A bum on a streey, a subway attendant, a security guard, a kid working at a fast-food restaurant. But as the mystery unfolds you'll run into some more unsavory characters, perhaps even other zombies.

NES Quest - The 8BIT Journey is a 2D adventure game developed by Yolt and Mr. T using Chris Jones' AGS engine. Making the mistake of lending your 8-bit console to your cousins, you find that the NES was returned in a sorry state and hence set out on a journey to get it fixed.

The game is of decent length and has good art for characters and backgrounds. There are roughly nine rooms to explore in total, but be prepared to do some pixel hunt exercise to find one or two items in this quest.
