Archaist
MichiShoot 'em up9.25 MBClick here to download

Archaist could not be any more different than it's predecessor, yet manages to retain every defining element of the original. Your mission is basically to search each area of the map for artifacts in the shape of floppy disks and time capsules. These objects should then be deposited at a base or station in order to earn an advancement in your designated rank.

It takes a bit of effort to learn the controls, fortunately the difficulty level can be adjusted to your liking. Rather frustrating at times as well, due to the fact that the number of artifacts collected are halved if you lose a ship. There's no save game function though all these are just minor nitpicks.

A remake that even the original author would approve of. Includes a Pastfinder theme which can be selected from the main menu.

Epsilon is a puzzle game which requires the act of manipulating time and space to solve each level. Your main objective is to collect all tokens to activate the exit portal, achieved by guiding the energized orb around the stage using two handy wormholes.

The first five modules basically serve as a helpful tutorial on changing the position of wormholes, pausing the game to plan your next move, turning back time using the X key, utilizing gravity fields to change the direction of the orb, and even employing ghost rooms to determine the outcome of every act of teleportation. There are fifteen stages to complete in the final module.

BrainSplode!
Richard Edwards, Rust Red GamesPuzzle14.5 MBClick here to download

BrainSplode! is a physics-based puzzle game which puts you in control of a rocket launcher that can be used to fire missiles at pink-coloured brains. The objective here is to destroy all of the brains in the area (marked as green squares on the mini-map) so that you may progress to the next stage, where more brains await for their eventual annihilation at your hands.

You can use the marker in the red box to move the turret around, then click on the launch button to fire a missile. Projectiles bounce off yellow pads, and players can utilize rocket components like thrusters and parachutes to guide their missiles with more precision in latter stages.

Q.U.B.E.
Toxic GamesPuzzle179 MBClick here to download
(external link)

Q.U.B.E. is a clever first-person puzzle game that tells the story of an unnamed protagonist trapped inside a maze, equipped with a pair of gloves that allows him to extrude or contract multi-coloured cubes by willpower alone. Manipulating the cubes is as simple as targeting them before pressing the left or right mouse button, although cubes will stop responding to your commands when they have reached the limit of their extension or contraction capabilities.

No tutorial sequence is included with the game, but it really doesn't take more than a minute to learn the controls and start solving puzzles in every room. You can't save your progress though, so be prepared to spend about an hour or so if you're planning to beat Q.U.B.E. in one sitting.

Sandbox of God, The
Vertigo Games, Mr. ChubigansPuzzle7.45 MBClick here to download

The Sandbox of god is a puzzle at heart, where every decision you make affects your outcome in the end.

You can use each godly power only once. Heavily inspired by GROW, you have many different choices so there really isn't a set path to follow.

Fraxy
monShoot 'em up1.68 MBClick here to download
(external link)

Fraxy is an arena shooter featuring a collection of boss fights, with an editor included to facilitate user creation as well. Use the cursor keys to operate your ship, hold the left mouse button to shoot or press the right mouse button for a temporary speed boost. The left shift key or mouse wheel can be used to swap weapons.

Energy is deducted whenever a shot is fired or the speed boost is activated. Without energy, your ship will explode. Up to five weapon slots can be fitted with your choice of arsenal using the config.exe file, with an explanation for each found in an english text manual in the same folder.

An undocumented item is the Over Soll Power boost, which can be acquired by staying in the core of a power-up item for a couple of seconds. Much like Cho Ren Sha 68k, though this upgrade is a temporary one and useful only when the ship is at full strength.

A specially designed Try mode is available for players to experience preset challenges, while the Free Play mode offers a random run or unlimited practice for experimentation.
