Dad Would Be Proud

Dad Would Be Proud is a short one-screen platformer consisting of only a handful of levels, centered around a gimmick that would be used repeatedly by the player so that they could reach the exit located on the other side of each room. Objects and traps are introduced at a steady pace as to not overwhelm the player with too many confusing elements, but your dependency on the time manipulation ability will make it seemingly difficult to complete a stage without this particular trait.

Dark Burigi's Mansion

Dark Burigi's Mansion (yamibrigimantion) is sort of a mix between Tarenagasi and Rocket Mairo, but instead of a rocket launcher you're using a cannon that shoots out brown stuff at whatever you're aiming at. The substance seems to be corrosive as well, and can turn enemies into mush if they come into contact with it. This prototype only has a single level to play through.

Darkfate is a lo-fi 2D platformer which tells the story of Chris Freeman, a man who suffers from a bout of amnesia and doesn't recognize the wintery tundra that he is in. The only way Chris will get any answers is by venturing forward and braving whatever challenges that he might find, in hopes that he could somehow recover his memory if he encounters things that he has seen before.

The game automatically saves at checkpoint locations, and you can replay any chapter by selecting the load option from the main menu. Both English and French versions of Darkfate are available for download from the official site.

Deaths is a 2D experimental platformer by Jesse Venbrux, creator of Execution and the popular Karoshi series. At the start of each game, the last fifty failed attempts by players from all around the world will be loaded and displayed as cadavers in various parts of the current stage.

There are only six levels to play in total, as development work on Deaths has been discontinued due to lack of positive feedback.

Deo Dorant
MajsPlatformer1.40 MBClick here to download

Deo Dorant is a brilliant tribute to the classic platformers of old, specifically Commander Keen and the Apogee releases. Character movement is a bit slow but everything else is a nod to maze explorations and precision jumps.

Navigate around the dungeon using the arrow keys, and press the enter key to activate switches. The protagonist can jump off the surface of molten lava pit once, but do watch out for dangerous pits sneakily placed in unsuspecting places.

Use the S or L key for save and load functions.

Kyle PulverPlatformer6.21 MBClick here to download

depict1 is a puzzle platformer created by Kyle Pulver during the Global Game Jam 2010 event, with music contribution provided by Aquaria co-creator Alec Holowka. You play as a hooded character trapped in a cage, set free by a mysterious figure who provides advice and feeds instructions to you behind the shadows.

Though developed over the course of a weekend, there is actually quite a bit of content to play in this Global Game Jam submission.

Descent is a retro 2D platformer created by the developer of the Visit series, where complicated moves such as air jumps, spring jumps and ledge grabbing must be mastered if you are to stand any chance of completing the game. Players assume control over an unnamed character who has to explore winding corridors and climb down pits, so that he or she could discover what lies at the bottom of this massive cave.

You can switch between full screen and windowed mode by pressing the F4 function key. Graphical glitches can be fixed by restarting your machine before playing.

Devil's Tuning Fork
DePaul Game ElitesPlatformer28.7 MBClick here to download

Devil's Tuning Fork is an exploration game viewed from a first-person perspective, where you play as a child trapped in an alternate reality after catching a strange illness and falling into a coma. The unknown world is a dark one and has no illumination, but a tuning fork that you find at the start of your adventure can be used to feel your way around the maze of rooms and platforms.

Locked doors can either be opened by collecting all toys inside a room, or by ringing a bell or a gong using a sound wave projected from your fork. Progress is saved automatically at checkpoint locations scattered throughout the maze, although if you quit the game and return to it later you will find that your previous save is no longer accessible. Some of the challenges are repetitive as well, especially when you are waiting for a moving platform to reach you for the umpteenth time, or trying to stand on the right spot to bounce a wave off a mirror and hit a gong.
