Squid and Let Die
OddbobAction/Arcade15.1 MBClick here to download

Squid and Let Die is a fast-paced arcade game in which players have to collect all dots on screen to progress to the next level. Cannons will try to home in on your position and fire a shot at you, but you can dodge them with ease if you move quickly enough.

The key to advancing in this game is to trick those cannons into shooting, since the cannons are immobilized while their shots still remain on the grid. The controls will take some getting used to, but players with a fondness for classic gaming will certainly want to add Oddbob's latest to their collection.

Shade

Shade is a short one room game set in a cramped apartment, written by Andrew Plotkin for the 6th Annual IF Competition in 2000. In it, players find themselves packing to leave for a trip to an arts festival, but must first complete a few house chores before setting off with the plane tickets in hand. The hint system has been cleverly disguised by the author as a to-do list, which can be referred to whenever you find yourself contemplating on what action to take next.

The Journey Down, Chapter 1: Over the Edge
Theodor WaernAdventure122 MBClick here to download

The Journey Down, Chapter 1: Over the Edge is a point-and-click adventure game that tells the story of Bwana and his friend Kito, two individuals who run a gas station but were forced to find other means of making money when the power company threatens to cut their electrical supply off. Fortunately at about the same time a young woman arrives at your doorstep looking for a book, and she willing to reward you handsomely should you be able to help her out with an errand.

Anyone familiar with classic LucasArts games should feel right at home with the controls here. Left clicking on any interactive object examines or operates it, inventory items are located at the bottom of the screen, and moving your cursor towards the top of the window displays the options menu.

You can press the period ('.') key to skip parts of a dialogue quickly, or use the escape key to end an in-game cutscene immediately. Note that there is only one save slot to use, and you might need to fiddle with the setup.exe file a bit to get the game looking as gorgeous as the screenshots posted at the official site.

Titanion

In Titanion, the ship you pilot has a capture beam that can be used to coax enemy craft to your side. These deserters will form a line formation and act as options, increasing your firepower in the process.

There is a standard level progression implemented, with all captured enemies retained from one stage to the next.

Solar Plexus
Joakim SandbergPlatformer11.8 MBClick here to download

Solar Plexus is a puzzle platformer created by the developer of the Noitu Love series, where you are in control of a female protagonist sent to investigate the sudden communication silence from a certain space colony. Most of the challenges in the game require the player to manipulate blocks using the mouse and navigate around obstacles placed deliberately to hinder their progress forward.

Weapon ammo is limited to just fifty shells as well, but you can replenish this stock by left-clicking on ammunition blocks resting somewhere in most levels. Some doors will only open after you've placed purple blocks in specially marked areas, while other locations are only accessible by creating your own platforms with the blocks.

This is an unfinished version of the full game, containing nine levels to play in total. Joakim has no plans to continue developing it, and is considering the project an abandoned one.

3D Starstrike
Urban InteractiveShoot 'em up24.4 MBClick here to download

Uncle's remake of 3D Starstrike is essentially a rail shooter first released on the Sinclair ZX Spectrum over two decades ago, which in turn was inspired by Star Wars arcade cabinets put out by Atari to cash in on the popularity of the franchise.

The first level involves shooting at enemy ships and the plasma bolts that they will fire at you, while the second requires some fancy dodging skills as you strive to avoid collision with turrets and towers attempting to gun you down. In stage three, you'll need to navigate around catwalks and destroy the two purple pipes at the end of the trench to enter the reactor. Blow up all six reactors pods in the final area to destroy the Battlestar and start all over again, albeit with a higher difficulty.

FarbsAction/Arcade2.52 MBClick here to download

Rom Check Fail is a new action game from the developer of Fishie Fishie and Polychromatic Funk Monkey. Players have to clear the screen of all enemies to complete each level, but the task is made a little more difficult by the random switching of gameplay rules where ideas are recycled and remastered as an odd mix of arcade or console classics from the past.

Use the arrow keys to move. The space key acts as an action button. Press the left alt and enter key to switch between full screen and windowed mode. The game has twenty stages in total.
