Why can’t they ever say : “My favorite” or “Our favorite” instead of “THE top X beat games EVER!!!”. I certainly don’t agree with most of this list.

  2. Paul Eres said,

    August 8th, 2007 at 3:10 am

Actually my list (coming soon) does say favorite.

  3. Anonymous said,

    Glad to hear it paul.

It truly is the hallmark of a small mind to argue over semantics. For your own piece of mind, just assume there is an implicit IMHO after everything you read or hear.

I’m real bummed out to see Play With Fire, a very innovative, slick game I worked on, get wholly overlooked by these lists. For christs sake, somebody review it!

  6. Paul Eres said,

    August 8th, 2007 at 6:53 am

Hahaha, give me a free copy and I’ll review it Patrick.

  7. haowan said,

    August 8th, 2007 at 7:19 am

The link to Play With Fire doesn’t work, Patrick.

“A list of games compiled by a small section of the community.”

Now that is a hell of a recommendation! ;)

“It truly is the hallmark of a small mind to argue over semantics.”

By “small mind,” you mean people who don’t necessarily appreciate hyperbole for the sake of attention-getting? Oh wait, semantics, yes. I’ll stop arguing, then…

You should consider different music for your game video. You may want to consider making a different game instead… or maybe just stop? might be better for you and all of us.

You could just start off by not whining; babysteps.

    @Derek: Alright, fixed. Sowwy… :(

  11. Echo said,

I have only one thing to say:

    “Lol”

btw, I also have a favourites list that didn’t seem to make the cut, heh.

  12. Echo said,

Oh wait - hey, it did!

    :P

Costik went and changed the node URL on me: here, now Play With Fire.

Super profundo on the early eve of your day.

Yeah, apparently this blog doesn’t take HTML.

    Uh…

Why are you such an asshole, Tim?

  16. haowan said,

    August 9th, 2007 at 9:03 am

Cut the guy some slack Alec, it was probably unintentional. Why the aggression?

  17. Echo said,

    August 9th, 2007 at 12:29 pm

Yeah, relax Alec. He could say the same thing to you - there’s no need to be so cantankerous all the time.

  18. alec said,

    August 9th, 2007 at 2:53 pm

    What aggression? I’m honestly curious…

Also, I don’t run an indie game blog… so if I’m perceived as being “cantankerous” by the folks that get kicks out of hating me on a regular basis, at least it won’t make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things.

  19. haowan said,

    August 9th, 2007 at 2:57 pm

You could phrase your “honest question” much more nicely IMO. IIRC English isn’t Tim’s first language but whatever, I’ll let him fight his own battles.

  20. alec said,

    August 9th, 2007 at 3:04 pm

    Battles?

I thought the whole purpose of this post was to jokingly insult people.

  21. haowan said,

    August 9th, 2007 at 3:11 pm

Aha, ok. I see what you did there now.

  22. Tim W. said,

    August 9th, 2007 at 3:14 pm

Well, Derek did correct me and I’ve made the correction, but in your case Alec I still can’t figure out what I’ve done wrong.

I get called names many times, just as often as I receive kind words from a lot of people… so I’m used to the flak by now. :)

The list is supposed to be helpful, and it’s a joke post as well. (re: no. 16 - 20). Mayhaps you didn’t find the irony? It wasn’t targeted at you surely, and there’s no venom at all in the post.

I would have apologized to anyone who feel offended about their list being in this post, and removed it upon request. Even a list on my site is in it, so I’ve no idea why I deserve that kind of remark. Maybe it’s random? Anyway, in the end I’m not flustered by it. :)

  23. Tim W. said,

    August 9th, 2007 at 3:20 pm

It’s a joke, and there’s no insult. Or perhaps one of your list was mentioned? I fail to find anything belonging to you listed actually…

  24. alec said,

    August 9th, 2007 at 3:20 pm

I agree, I see no reason why you should care.

I think the post and the following comments are entirely ridiculous.

  25. Tim W. said,

    August 9th, 2007 at 4:09 pm

Ooh, you have no idea how much I care about the scene. Heck, the only motivation I have to post five times a day is because of you guys, the community, the developers - everyone (even MDickie!). You can bury me in a grave filled with indie and freeware games when I pass on, and I’d be eternally grateful to you for the kindness.

I was planning on sending an email to you and discuss about what happened (assuming that there was anything I did which offended you in any way), but I don’t think you’re going to be a reasonable gentleman with your response. I’m hoping that I’m wrong though.

  26. Kon-Tiki said,

    August 9th, 2007 at 6:51 pm

Hahaha, “Top 10 Worst Games” =D Two things about that:
    1) It’s made in 2006 and covers games from all times, so it belongs in that next list you’re going to make ;) (You better make it. These things’re funny =D )
    3) I can’t count

We can expect that next Top 10 list of lists of games from whenever, now can we?

  27. Paul Eres said,

    August 9th, 2007 at 9:45 pm

It was intended to be ridiculous — it was a joke entry. The purpose was to make fun of all these lists in a lighthearted way. I think you may have misunderstood Tim’s intentions.

  28. alec said,

    August 10th, 2007 at 8:10 am

I’m not unreasonable. But I guess you’re not willing to see that.

That’s cool, you can hate me if you want.

    Knock yourself out.

  29. alec said,

    August 10th, 2007 at 8:13 am

Paul, did I ever say I thought it wasn’t a retarded joke?

I love how people are taking my comments seriously, as if there’s even something to attack in Tim’s post.

Its all in good fun, same spirit as the original light-hearted post. :)

  30. Anonymous said,

    August 10th, 2007 at 9:06 am

who said anything about hating you?

no one is ganging up on you, i’m sure that’s what haowan meant.

seriously alec, you come around, voice your harsh opinion without reason - even i think you’re being unreasonable here.

i can see why you’re not a popular figure around the scene, and it definitely has nothing to do with running an indie game blog.

  31. Paul Eres said,

    August 10th, 2007 at 9:27 am

It’s hard to interpret tone and intention online. I didn’t understand that you meant your comment lightheartedly, sorry for overreacting.

I don’t know of anyone who hates you though, I don’t have anything but admiration toward you myself (especially after I saw the level editor for Aquaria).

  32. Anonymous said,

    August 10th, 2007 at 11:41 am

alec: don’t swap your day-time job programming for a gig as a stand-up comedian. you have zero talent when it comes to sharing any joke whatsoever.

keep telling people to fuck off whenever you can, and you’ll go far in life.

    asshole.

  33. Kon-Tiki said,

    August 10th, 2007 at 12:18 pm

Alec, I didn’t understand what you were talking about in the beginning, and the more you go on about it, the less I understand it, as it seems like it keeps getting twisted and warped the more it goes on. Just drop it, and next time you make a joke like that, put a disclaimer near it, although I honestly don’t think that making a sniding remark like that is funny, not even when intended as a joke. If you REALLY can’t keep yourself from making such weird jokes, then at least put a disclaimer up, so we understand it’s meant as one.

  34. Alec said,

    August 18th, 2007 at 3:57 pm

    Sweet, more hating. <3

Anyways, I respect Tim. His original unedited post took a joke dump on TIGS, so I felt I’d take a joke dump on him. I thought it was a mutual respect thing, and since his posts on TIGS are usually so crazy random, he’d get it. My bad!

In terms of being cantankerous, yeah, I tend to get pissed when people try to force their beliefs on me without respecting mine. That’s bullshit. There’s no doubt I could have handled that Linux thread better, but I was really pissed that people weren’t even trying to relate to our situation. Do I regret the way I acted? Oh hells yes.

But I’m young and stupid. Maybe in the future I’ll be able to handle it better. At least, I’d hope so.

In the meantime, I’ll stick to being my optimistic, depressed and occasionally cantankerous self.

Am I interested in being “popular”? No. But getting along with people is important, and I’d hope to make new friends in the scene. I don’t want to be someone that offends people without reason, but I’m still going to speak my mind like everyone has the right to.

Actually, for anyone that would like to have a discussion rather than just flinging shit at me, my msn is zaphire@mts.net :]
