(freeware, hurrican, l0607, remakes)
Hurrican is essentially a modernised, graphically-updated, feature packed version of Turrican. As with the original, the levels are large (and beg to be explored), the enemies come thick and fast from all angles and the game is far from a pushover. Due to the sheer number of features included, the controls tend to feel a little over complicated at times (there are so many combinations to remember) but the end result is still very rewarding.

The plot of Zub involves navigating through ten different planets to find the lost Eye of Zub. Each planet is connected to some others by a system of teleports. You start on planet 1 and must get to planet 10 and back.
There are platforms on each screen, when you stand on one you can move it by crouching and pushing left or right. Use the platforms to get up to the three teleports at the top, your destination depending on which you choose. There is always at least one alien on screen at any one time, which descends from the top and attempts to knock you off the platforms.

Plasma Warrior is the latest platformer by Tom Vine, creator of the excellent Paroxysm which was released a few months earlier. This particular effort uses only seven colors, though no less professional than his last work. Your task is to guide a robot on an exploration mission to uncover the mystery of an abandoned mining operation.
Use the cursor keys to move, press the shift key to jump and hold the left control key to shoot. The down arrow key can be used to read signs or enter doors as well. Press the alternate and enter key at the same time to switch between full screen and windowed mode.

JNKPlat 07 is a puzzler by Jayenkai disguised as a platformer, in which all movements are measured in grids. The problem of missing a leap by mere pixels is avoided, though two jump buttons have been included so there could be a slight confusion when learning the controls.
Each of the twenty stages can be completed without collecting all bonus items.

Alex Adventure is a cute platformer, somewhat on a par with Lyle in Cube Sector in terms of creativity used for enemies and environment. Jumping feels a little strange at first but once you get past this, the gameplay focuses on running, jumping, shooting, exploring and solving small puzzles. Fortunately the gameplay mechanics actually work quite well and the game itself has a good deal of charm.
